Bio

Alexander Baiz is a pianist and electronic musician who weaves between the worlds of jazz, ambient, and contemporary classical genres.

Alex had the privilege to study jazz piano with the great Stanley Cowell during his Bachelor of Music degree program at Rutgers University. He has also studied classical piano privately with Sophia Rosoff, and ear training with Ran Blake. In 2013 he moved to NYC to pursue music. He has performed at venues including The Blue Note Jazz Club, Roulette, and the former Cornelia Street Cafe. 

In 2017, Alex began accompanying dance classes. Since then, he’s worked with dance companies such as Mark Morris Dance Group, American Ballet Theatre, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. In 2023, he was the rehearsal pianist at Brooklyn Academy of Music for the Pina Bausch Tanztheatre Wuppertal, for their American premier of Água

In 2023 Alex completed the Master of Music – Performer Composer degree at The New School College of Performing Arts. He used this time to further explore electro-acoustic music and composition – working in depth with teachers Levy Lorenzo, Nathan Davis, and Elliot Cole. He released his debut EP Indigo Mirror in March of 2023, featuring original works for piano and synthesizers.

Since 2024, Alex has been busy assembling a Modular Synthesizer system of DIY self-built modules. In August of 2024, he and his dad built a wooden case together to house the modules. His latest explorations involve processing acoustic piano and external synthesizers through the modular system.
