Alexander Baiz, also known as Alex Perry, is a pianist, composer, and electronic musician whose work seamlessly integrates acoustic and electronic sound. With a strong foundation in both jazz and classical traditions, he blends these influences to create innovative music that spans genres. Alex's music explores the intersection of improvisation, composition, and cutting-edge sound design. With a keen interest in modular synthesis and electro-acoustic techniques, he crafts sonic landscapes that are both intimate and expansive, blending organic textures with electronic innovation.
Alexander earned his Master of Music in Performer-Composer from The New School's College of Performing Arts, where he focused on electro-acoustic composition and sound synthesis. His work culminated in a capstone project that seamlessly blended live piano performance with electronic processing, showcasing his ability to synthesize traditional musicianship with contemporary technology. He also holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Rutgers University, where he graduated magna cum laude, recognized for his academic and artistic achievements.
As a performer, Alex has accompanied world-renowned dance companies, including the American Ballet Theatre, Mark Morris Dance Group, and Pina Bausch’s Tanztheatre Wuppertal. His improvisational prowess and adaptability have made him a sought-after collaborator for choreographers and performers across genres.
In addition to his performance career, Alex is an experienced music educator, teaching piano, composition, and electronic music. He has developed and taught courses on classical music history and modular synthesis, fostering creativity and technical skill in students of all ages. Alexander's work as a composer and producer has led to the release of his debut album Indigo Mirror, as well as numerous collaborative projects that highlight his expertise in modular synthesis and electronic sound design. He is skilled in a wide array of tools and techniques, including Max/MSP, VCV Rack, and analog synthesis, allowing him to push the boundaries of contemporary composition.
